Apple launches new iPod touch with A10 chip, 256GB of storage
Apple hasn't (completely) forgotten about its iPod touch. On Tuesday, the company announced a new version of the device, with Apple's A10 Fusion chip on board, as well as augmented reality (AR) and Group FaceTime support. With these changes, Apple's portable music player has gotten a much needed update, its first since July 2015. Another important change: consumers can now choose an iPod touch with 256GB of storage -- quite important for users with large music collections. The design of the device appears unchanged from the previous generation, home button, bezels and all. The rest of the specs include a 4-inch Retina display, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel front camera (all the same as in the previous generation of the device). It's also worth noting that the iPod touch will support Apple's game subscription service, Apple Arcade, when it launches this fall. The new iPod touch with 32GB of storage costs $199. The 128GB version (there's no 64GB variant) will set you back $299, while the 256GB version costs $399. It's available in six colors: Space Gray, Gold, Silver, Pink, Blue and (PRODUCT)Red. To get a better idea of how much value you're getting for the money, consider the $449 iPhone 7, which has the same A10 Fusion chip and is still being sold by Apple. That phone has a similar design as the iPod touch but a bigger, 4.7-inch screen, far better cameras, a fingerprint sensor (built into the Home button), and water resistance. The iPod touch is available now from Apple.com and in the Apple Store app in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the UAE, UK and U.S.
