North Korea's party mouthpiece Rodong Sinmun Tuesday slammed the U.S. for interfering in inter-Korean relations, a day before a South Korean delegation led by national security adviser Chung Eui-yong heads to the North to discuss an inter-Korean summit expected later this month.
In an editorial titled "Blocking North-South relations," the newspaper said U.S. intervention had hampered inter-Korean projects in various sectors.
"(The U.S.) is pulling (the two Koreas') hind legs to prevent every (inter-Korean) project, including the opening of the North-South joint liaison office, North-South railway projects, North-South road modernization projects, the reactivation of Kaesong Industrial Complex and resumption of Mount Kumgang tourism," it said. "(The U.S.) is also dissatisfied with the already planned inter-Korean summit, saying dissonance in U.S.-South Korean relations has been growing."
Criticizing the U.S. for not supporting the April 27 Panmunjeom Declaration, the newspaper said the declaration was not a "pledge" the North would follow the "sanctions that the U.S. forces" on the regime.
It also mentioned the North's repatriation of U.S. remains, calling the U.S. impeding of inter-Korean relations "a crime against humanity."
The newspaper called on South Korea's commitment to implement inter-Korean projects, while also highlighting the unified Korean canoeing team's gold medal in the women's 500-meter dragon boat race at the Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games. It was the first time the party mouthpiece has reported on a unified Korean team at the Asian Games.
