Xbox Live is experiencing outages
Xbox Live went down. That harsh reality hit thousands of gamers Thursday afternoon as they desperately tried, and failed, to log into the gaming platform. And they were pissed. Microsoft confirmed the problem in a tweet, as well as on the Xbox Live status page. "We are aware that some members may be having problems signing in to Xbox Live," noted the service page. "We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we will be sure to provide you with frequent updates." According to Down Detector, the outage mainly affected players in the United States and Western Europe, but it was not limited to those locations. The players that lost access weren't exactly taking it well — spewing profanity at the team managing the Xbox Support Twitter account. Others, however, took a somewhat lighter approach. Interestingly, some speculated that a DDoS attack could have caused the outage, but that has yet to be confirmed and as of press time Xbox has not responded to our request for comment. We'll update this story when we know more. In the meantime, I don't know, try reading a book? UPDATE: March 2, 2018, 9:41 a.m. PST This story has been updated to reflect the fact that as of Friday morning, the Xbox Live status page said that all services were working normally.
