Demolition of silo goes wrong way, accidentally falling on library
Whoops. On Friday afternoon, a demolition of a 53-metre high silo in Vordingborg, Denmark took place, as had been planned for months. What workers didn't expect is for the silo to fall the wrong way. Instead of landing on a clear site intended for its remnants, the silo landed on a neighbouring library and cultural centre, leaving a crowd of onlookers a-gasp. Fortunately, no one was injured in the mishap, Sydsjællands and Lolland-Falsters police told Danish television station TV 2. "We had not imagined it would be so bad," Kenneth Wegge, who led the silo's explosion, told the station. "We still do not know what went wrong. We are currently investigating." Vordingborg municipality posted photos of the damage done to the building on Facebook, with the library's staff able to access the site to view the havoc. The glass, dust, and gravel inside the building will have to be cleaned away before the collection can be attended to. Mayor Mikael Smed said he's "very pleased" no one was injured, and said investigators will assess how damaged the structure is in order to determine its future.
