Next 'Star Wars' following 'Rise of Skywalker' gets 2022 release date
That galaxy far, far away is about to take some much needed time off. Disney has officially confirmed that the next Star Wars installment, following the release of The Rise of Skywalkerlater this year, won't hit theaters until December 16, 2022. That means fans eager to see what happens after the end of the Skywalker saga will face a lengthy three-year hiatus before the franchise's next chapter. But thankfully, there's plenty more to come. Per a press release distributed Tuesday, Disney has announced two more untitled Star Warsinstallments, slated to arrive in 2024 and 2026 — as well as a general outline for its many studios' film release plans through 2027. In the Decembers of 2021, 2023, 2025, and 2027, sci-fi fans longing for Star Wars can check out the next four chapters in the Avatar franchise. Disney is also promising a whole slew of previously unannounced projects, including nine live-action Disney adaptations and eight Marvel installments. At present, these projects remain unnamed. Notably, the much-discussed Cruella, a 101 Dalmatians origin story starring Emma Stone, received a December 23, 2020 release date. Meanwhile, New Mutants, which was originally dated for 2018, has been pushed all the way back to April 3, 2020. Also in the works: an untitled Kingsmanmovie, the Bob's Burgersbig-screen debut, Artemis Fowl, four new Pixar films, and more. Check out the complete list here. TopicsDisneyMarvelPixarStar Wars
